Get to Know Me: My Domains and Their History

My name is Miroslav Glavić, pronounced MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech, but outside the Balkans, people often write it as Miroslav Glavic and pronounce it MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-vik. Now that you know that, let me take you on a journey about my online presence through my domains.
This upcoming 24 March 2025 will mark 20 years since I registered my first two domains: miroslavglavic.com and miroslavglavic.ca. At first, I hosted my content on miroslavglavic.ca, with miroslavglavic.com redirecting to the .ca domain. That was the setup for many years until at some point (which I honestly cannot remember), I switched things around. Now, the content is on miroslavglavic.com, and miroslavglavic.ca redirects to the .com version.
Let me explain briefly what these domain extensions mean. .ca is a ccTLD (country code top-level domain), which is specifically for Canada, reflecting where I live. On the other hand, .com, .net, and .org are gTLDs (generic top-level domains), which are not tied to any specific country. .com was originally meant for commercial entities, .net for network providers, and .org for non-profits, though now they are widely used for all sorts of purposes.
On 28 December 2011, I registered two more domains: miroslavglavic.net and miroslavglavic.org. These have always been set to redirect to miroslavglavic.com and have never hosted any content directly.
Now, for just over ten and a half years, I was saying: “My name is MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech and my website is MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-vik dot com.” Do you see the mismatch between how I pronounce my name and the domain I was using? Well…
On 20 October 2015, I finally got miroslavglavich.com, which has been redirecting to miroslavglavic.com ever since. So now, I can finally say: “My name is MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech, and my website is MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech dot com.”
At last, everything matches! For over a decade, I had to say that my name was MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech, but my website and email used GLAH-vik. Now, I can tell people to email me at example@MEE-ro-slahv GLAH-veech dot com without any confusion. I honestly have no idea why, in the decade or so between the registration of miroslavglavic.com and miroslavglavich.com, I never thought to register miroslavglavich back in 2005. It took me over 10 years to finally make it happen, and I’m still not sure why it took me so long!
Around the Christmas holidays of 2021 to New Year’s Day 2022, I realized that although I had the four miroslavglavic domains, I only had one miroslavglavich domain. So, on 11 February 2022 (yes, I know it took a while; January 2022 was a busy month!), I registered miroslavglavich.ca, miroslavglavich.net, and miroslavglavich.org. All three redirect to miroslavglavich.com, which in turn redirects to miroslavglavic.com.
So, there you have it! Those are my eight domains. You can check out any of them, and they will all lead you to miroslavglavic.com.
The domains and hosting are with FMGIC, which I personally own and manage. The servers are located in Pori, Finland, and I manage the site and FMGIC from Toronto, Canada (most of the time, that is—when I “accidentally” took the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-F for a spin, I had a portable gadget to update the site from the ship).
